Brief description:


The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Planetary Geosciences, or GeoPlaNet, is a specialized educational program focusing on planetary sciences and geosciences. Erasmus Mundus is a higher education cooperation and mobility program that aims to improve the quality of European higher education while also promoting conversation and understanding between people and cultures via collaboration with third countries. Consortia of higher education institutions from many nations provide Joint Master Degrees.


The GeoPlaNet program is intended to provide students a thorough grasp of planetary processes, geology, and geophysics, with a focus on the geological development and dynamics of planets and other celestial bodies in our solar system. Planetary interiors, surface processes, impact cratering, volcanism, tectonics, and other geological phenomena on planets, moons, and asteroids are all studied.






I.        Study Locations: 
  • France, Italy, and Portugal
Where you will Study?
  1. Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal)
  2. Università d'Annunzio di Chieti-Pescara (Italy)
  3. Nantes Université (France)

Internships & Field Work:

Students will do their internships within the GeoPlaNet associated partners' network
  • Visit of the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), Netherlands
  • Fieldtrips in Italy and Spain
  • Internship offers at NASA (JPL) and ESA
  • World-renowned guest lecturers

II.    Eligible Countries:  All countries are eligible



III.   Level/Duration of Study:  

  • Two Years Master's Programs

IV.    Taught Programs:  

  • English
  • Portugal

V.      Scholarship Benefits:

The scholarship provides financial support to cover the following expenses.

  • Tuition Waiver
  • Registration Fees
  • Return Flight Tickets
  • Thesis defense
  • Stipend €1400 per month for  Two years
  • Medical Insurance

  • Total 15 Seats available for all countries

VI.      Eligibility:

Eligible applicants must meet the following conditions

  • Bachelor's Degree in Earth science, physics, mathematics, astrophysics, geology, and engineering.
  • Applicants must meet Language requirements 

Note: Native speakers from the following countries are exempted from providing the English certificate:  Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA and Ireland

Or  English Language Certificate from a previous institute is also acceptable.

  • Curriculum Vitae (Europass EU format)
  • Passport (Must be valid)
  • Degree/Pass/Provisional Certificate
  • Transcripts/Mark sheets/Score Cards
  • Motivation Letter
  • Two Recommendation Letters
  • Residence Certificate  (Only for Erasmus Applicants)
  • Experiences Certificates (Optional)
  • Thesis/Researcher paper  publications (Optional)
  • IELTS/TOEFL or any other Language Proficiency Certificate
