SWISS Govt Scholarships for International Students 2024

Brief description:

The Swiss Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) offers outstanding scholarship programs such as the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships. These scholarships are intended to encourage international interaction and collaboration in education, research, and culture by offering financial assistance to excellent students, researchers, and artists from all over the world. The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are divided into the following categories:

Research fellowships:

The research scholarship (research fellowship, PhD, Postdoc) is available to post-graduate researchers in any discipline (a master's degree is the minimum qualification required) who plan to come to Switzerland to pursue doctoral or post-doctoral studies.

Research scholarships are available for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, the two federal institutes of technology, and the four research institutes. Only candidates nominated by an academic supervisor at one of these higher education institutions will be considered. 

Art scholarships:

Art scholarships are available to students pursuing an initial arts master's degree in Switzerland. Scholarships for study at any Swiss conservatory or university of the arts are available. This award is only offered to students from a select few countries.

III.        Level's/Duration of Study:  

  •  Research Fellowship (12 Months)
  •  PhD Scholarship ( 36 Months)
  •  Post-Doctoral Scholarship (12 Months)
  •  Arts Programs (12 to 21 Months)

VI.        Eligibility:


  • Master’s degree or equivalent achieved before 31 July 2024 (except ETH Zurich: 30 June 2024). Degree certificate completed.
  • Applicants must be born after 31 December 1988.
  • A research proposal including a timeframe.
  • Mandatory letter from an academic host professor (including their short CV).
  • PhD degree achieved after 31 December 2020 and before 31 July 2024 (Post-Doctoral)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent achieved before 31 July 2024. (Only for Art applicants)
  • Must be a resident of eligible countries
