Confucius Institute Scholarships for Chinese Language Programs

The Confucius Institute Scholarships are a Chinese government-sponsored programme that assists overseas students who seek to study the Chinese language and culture in China. The Confucius Institute Scholarships programme offers Three categories, including:

One-Year Study: For overseas students studying in China for one year of Chinese language courses, this scholarship provides tuition, housing, a monthly stipend, and medical insurance.

One-Semester Study: This scholarship is similar to the one-year scholarship, except it only covers one semester.

BTCSOL: Scholarship for a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL). This scholarship is for those who want to study Chinese as a foreign language.

MTCSOL: Scholarships for a Master's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL). This award is intended for students pursuing a Master's degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

VI.        Eligibility:

  • Must not be Chinese Citizens
  • Must be medically Good and
  • The Age limit for  programs  is 16-45 years
  • Must have a HSK or HSKK certificate (Any)
  • Must be a residence of Eligible countries
  • Be friendly to China , No Criminal Record
  • Applicants must provide a proof of employment if they are working as Chinese language teacher courses.
  • Applicants under 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal authorities in China.

Applicants shall provide additional documents are required by the host institutions

Important Note:

  • Recommendation letters must be signed by recommending institution/University director.
  • In-service Chinese teacher should provide incumbency certificate and recommendation letter by employeed institution.

VIII.        Application Deadline:

Online application will be available from 1st March
  1. For programs starting in July, the application deadline is  April 15th.
  2. For programs starting in September, the application deadline is May 15th.
  3. For programs starting in December, the application deadline is  September 15th.
  4. For programs starting in March, the application deadline is  November 15th.
  • Specific deadlines vary depending on the university/institute.

  • Submit the University Online Application and upload the required documents including the Signed CIS scholarship application (If required).
